- Regarded as one of the best violinists in the world, Florin Niculescu will be present at the International Romani Art Festival with the project „Gypsy Rhapsodie Est and West”. A remarkable musician, precise, nimble and dynamic (Le Monde) “Breathtaking though natural, tough, though gentle” (Le Figaro) "In him, French jazz has finally found a successor to Grappelli" (Jazz Hot).
- Florin Niculescu is one of the most refined violonists of the contemporary international jazz scene. In spite of his many collaborations, this captivating musician has developed a different style and language, his jazz emerging from the blend of a solid education and roma traditions. The impecable technique and his remarkable virtuosity – praised both by musicians and by the public - do not lead towards an end, but a way for expressing his artistic personality. Instead of establishing boundries, his obvoius spiritual affinity for Stephane Grappelli (1908- 1997) gave him the possibility to explore new and innovating musical fields. Following a long and fruitful partnership with Bireli Lagrene, Florin Niculescu is currently involved in a new project, covering some of Django Reinhardt’s (1910-1953) artistic work.
- The premiere of the „Gypsy Rhapsodie Est and West” show, along with the famous “Pasdeloup”symphonic orchestra took place at the Mogador theatre in Paris, one of the biggest theaters in Europe. The show is a tribute to the pioneers of french jazz, Stephan Grappelli and Django Reinhardt, artists that have had a huge influence on the musical scene of the 20th century by imposing a new music trend called "jazz manuche".
- Furthermore, in order to celebrate 100 years from the birth of Stephan Grapelli, during the 2007 and 2008 the show will be presented in the most prestigious concert halls all around the world: on the 13th of September 2007 “Theatre des Champs Elysees”, Paris, between the 8th and 21st of October 2007 at the Kristiansand “Symphony Orchestra” theatre, Norway, on the 4th of January 2008 “Sala Pleyel“, on the 24th of January 2008 at the Carnegie Hall in NewYork. his project is performed by a quintet comprising: Christian Escoud Christophe Lartilleux, Philippe Cuillerier, Bruno Ziarelli and Jean- Philippe Viret.
- Christian Escouds a laureate of the Jazz Academy with the “Django Reinhardt” award. He plays as a free-lancer together with Michel Portal, Slide Hampton or Jean – Claude Fohrenbach.
- Christophe Lartilleux’s music is a mix of various influences: from jazz-fusion to be-bop, flamenco and swing. He is currently a professor at the Music Halles in Toulouse.
- Philippe Cuillerier alias “Doudou” is considered as an irreplaceable figure of jazz manuche. Great jazz artists such as Angelo Debarre, Tchavolo Schmitt, Bireli Lagrene discovered in Philippe Cuillerier not only a strong rhythm but also a remarkable voice.
- Bruno Ziarelli is technically a drummer, but a percussionist by the color of the instrument he plays as he constantly reinvents the rules of drums. With a sensitive and refined sound, he is an attentive accompanist, an impetuous artist. Bruno Ziarelli is the living proof that even nowadays, after all aspects of music have been explored, it’s still possible for a player to have his own instrumental tonality.
- Jean-Philippe Viret studied the contrabass at the Bordeaux Conservatory and also the harmonica, counterpoint and orchestration.
